    Exploration of the spread of hip-hop throughout the world, examining the social context, stylistic sources and musical work of artists from the US, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
  
  • MUS 1106 - Blues, R&B and Soul


    Units: 4
    Examination of three musical genres that form the backbone of American popular music - blues, rhythm & blues, and soul - and the way these styles influence popular music and culture in the US and the rest of the world.
  
  • MUS 2269 - Arts and Media of the Golden State


    Units: 4
    The role of creativity in California, the mass-media cultural center of the world, including the stage, screen, recording industry, media, Silicon Valley, and gaming. Introduction to arts and media forms with an emphasis on the roles of delivery and content in developing a personal understanding and appreciation for arts and culture. Requires attendance at on- and off- campus arts and cultural events. Not open to students with credit for THEA 2269 .
