Applied Statistics Certificate

About the Certificate

The Certificate in Applied Statistics combines basic work in statistics, which is required for many majors and graduate degree programs, with additional coursework in applied statistics. The coursework is designed to broaden the abilities of scientists and social scientists who already have degrees, but who need more training in applying statistics to their research and employment activities.

The minimum required GPA for the awarding of the certificate is 2.0. Consult an advisor in the Department of Statistics and Biostatistics for clarification and interpretation of requirements.

Note: The certificate consists of 15 units, not including prerequisites. At least 4 units must be at the graduate level.

Applied Statistical Methodology

A total of 6-8 units are required from the following Methodology groups:

Choose one (1) of the following courses for 3-4 units:
STAT 303 - Statistical Methods in Biology Units: 3
STAT 310 - Statistical Methods in the Social Sciences Units: 3
STAT 316 - Statistics and Probability for Science and Engineering Units: 3
STAT 330 - Statistical Inference Units: 3
STAT 630 - Statistical Methods Units: 4
Choose one (1) of the following second-level courses for 3-4 units (note that STAT 631 has STAT 630 as a prerequisite):
STAT 331 - Introduction to Analysis of Variance Units: 3
STAT 631 - Analysis of Variance Models Units: 4

Data Analysis with Packages

Choose one (1) course from the following for 2-3 units:
