The American Sign Language Minor promotes the understanding of the Deaf Community as a linguistic and cultural minority group. Students are encouraged to apply what they have learned in the program to work both within their own communities and others to promote empowerment and combat oppression/audism of the Deaf Community. The minor at Cal State East Bay is unique because there is a strong focus on ASL proficiency which will lead to successful integration into entry-level jobs working with or alongside Deaf populations.
