Program Description
The CSUEB Single Subject Matter Program in Mathematics includes a variety of courses intended to prepare students for a career as a high school mathematics teacher. CSUEB’s Single Subject Matter Preparation Program yields a State Board of Education approved certification. The certification allows a student to waive taking the three required math California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSETs). A student need not be a mathematics major to complete this program; however, students who complete the mathematics major and select the courses designated for future teachers will have completed all of the required mathematics coursework for the Single Subject Matter Preparation Program. If a student subsequently wishes to complete a California Secondary Teaching Credential in Mathematics, in addition to the required mathematics courses, a year of education courses and practice teaching is required.
A minimum of forty six (46) semester units are required in the Single Subject Matter Preparation Program in Mathematics.
