Global Studies Minor

The Global Studies minor offers students a multidisciplinary curriculum through which they can explore the complex and multifaceted interconnections that characterize the contemporary world. It is designed for those who want to complement their major field of specialization with the kind of integrative learning that comes from the interdisciplinary study of globalization and global problems. The Global Studies minor consists of a core course in global studies (3 units), another lower-division course with global content (3-4 units), and 3 upper-division courses in an area of emphasis (a discipline, a regional, or a topic) (9-12 units). All Global Studies minors are also required to complete an internationally related internship or participate in an approved study abroad program.

Minor Requirements (17-28 units)
Language Requirement
Eight (8) semester units (two-course sequence) of a modern foreign language or the equivalent as determined by examination for 0-8 units is required.
Required Course
Take the following 3 units:

Choose one (1) course for 3-4 units from the following:
Upper Division Coursework
Take 11-13 units as outlined below:
Students must take three (3) courses of upper division international course work (minimum of 9 units) in an area of emphasis. Area of emphasis to be chosen with approval of Inernational Studies Director.
- a discipline area
- a regional area
- a topic area
Plus, students must take 2-3 units of either International Field Work or an approved program of Study Abroad. Students must successfully complete at least one (1) three-credit class on an appropriate study abroad program.
