Biostatistics Minor

The Biostatistics minor is designed to complement majors in other disciplines to allow students exposure to applied statistical methods, focusing on those used in the field of biostatistics. These methods enable students to conduct research in applied fields, broaden employment possibilities, and appeal to graduate schools seeking students with a quantitative background.

Minor Requirements (15 units)

The minor in biostatistics is designed to provide a general background in statistics for students majoring in other areas. It is of particular value to students majoring in such disciplines as biology and health sciences. The minor in biostatistics will broaden students’ understanding of statistics with applications to biological sciences and will expand employment opportunities. The minor consists of 15 units.

Required Courses

Note: Some courses have prerequisites not listed in the minor.

Choose one (1) course from each pair of courses for 6 units:
STAT 303 - Statistical Methods in Biology Units: 3
OR
STAT 330 - Statistical Inference Units: 3
And
STAT 331 - Introduction to Analysis of Variance Units: 3
OR
STAT 495 - Data Analysis with SAS Units: 3
Plus, take the following required course for 3 units:
STAT 432 - Introduction to Linear Regression and Logistic Regression Units: 3

Elective Course

Choose two (2) courses for 6 units from the following:

STAT 351 - Sampling Procedures for Surveys Units: 3
STAT 451 - Introduction to Data Visualization Units: 3
STAT 473 - Introduction to Nonparametric Statistics Units: 3
