Mission Statement
The College of Science, by fostering an environment where students, faculty and staff work collaboratively to expand knowledge in the disciplines of science and mathematics, seeks to provide both majors and non-majors with a science foundation that is appropriate to their career goals and with knowledge and skills that will allow them to function as responsible and contributing members of society.

Programs and Centers
CSCI Student Service Center The College of Science undergraduate advisors ensure that students receive timely guidance about their degree requirements; have information about and access to opportunities beyond the classroom including research, internships, and career pathways; get help navigating our systems; and build belonging and STEM identity in a supportive and inclusive community. We will consistently communicate with clarity and kindness.
STEM LAB The STEM Lab, situated in the new Braddock Center for Science and Innovation under the College of Science, provides a collaborative learning environment that connects students with undergraduate Learning Assistants (LAs) and graduate Teaching Associates (TAs). Students are welcome to drop in with questions for the LAs, use the space for group study sessions, or work on their homework assignments.
Career Awareness and Preparation Program (CAP) builds partnerships with local STEM businesses and professionals to connect with Cal State East Bay students. CAP provides students with access to high-quality, professional-skills workshops, information about job openings and internships, industry site visits, networking opportunities, and the supportive team of staff who are dedicated to helping students develop strong foundations to achieve their career goals.
Biotechnology Certificate Program (BCP) is a competitive, limited enrollment program emphasizing close supervision and instruction in current theoretical and practical training in molecular life sciences. It was established in 1986 to meet the personnel requirements of the rapidly expanding Bay Area biotechnology industry.
Preprofessional Health Academic Program (PHAP) is operated by University Extension in collaboration with College of Science and prepares students interested in health professional careers (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, veterinary science, physical therapy and selected allied health programs) for application to these doctoral programs. Students are encouraged to review information on this website to learn more about differences between those categories.
Green Biome Institute (GBI) is focused on conservation and faculty/student research involving genomic profiling and seed/tissue banking of California’s endangered plants. The GBI is the first conservation and genomic profiling institute in the California State University or University of California systems, and aligns with our focus on sustainability and the Biology faculty’s deep expertise in plant research.
Scholarships and Opportunities
The College has several scholarships available specifically for majors within the college. There are also opportunities for employment related to student interests that help provide financial support as well as professional preparation for STEM careers after graduation.
