COMM 458 - Feminist Rhetoric

If Rhetoric is the art of persuasion, then what is Feminist Rhetoric? In this class, we will attempt to respond to that question. The course traces the development of Feminist Rhetorical Studies within the field of Communication to challenge inequity.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

GE-1A. English Composition Learning Outcomes
1. Historical, theoretical and practical feminist frameworks for examining Rhetoric and the rhetoric of gender and communication.

2. Feminism(s) as rhetoric to theorize socialization, oppression, and liberation.

3. Histories of rhetorical feminist theory and critique in the field of Communication.

4. To critically read, evaluate, and engage original feminist scholarship in Rhetoric.

5. To contemplate power in relation to rhetoric of gender, embodiment, and equity and ethically apply these theories to their own lives as well as critique rhetoric of oppression.
