NURS 605A - Applying Principles of Patient Safety, Quality, and Highly Reliable Organizations


Units: 3
Patient safety, quality improvement, change management, adult learning centered approaches, and high reliability organization theories and models are examined. System assessment, data analysis, project management, and initiative execution are explored providing strategies to foster safe, effective, and efficient healthcare delivery.

Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Analyze theories and models of patient safety, quality and high reliable organizations.
  2. Articulate evidence-based quality improvement strategies based on system assessment, data analysis process, and evaluation of patient quality outcome measures.
  3. Apply information and design systems to patient care settings for quality improvement.
  4. Analyze strategies for integration of patient care services and reduction of care fragmentation.
  5. Implement strategies to develop a culture of safety, accountability and a just culture in healthcare teams.
  6. Apply quality improvement methods to promote culturally responsive, equitable, and high quality patient-centered care.
  7. Implement quality improvement strategies to address socio cultural determinants of health.
