SW 495B - Social Work Practicum II

Units: 4
Students in Practicum courses are assigned to community-based placements applying the knowledge, skills, and values learned within program courses. Practicum education is guided by an individualized learning contract developed by the student and the practicum instructor.

Prerequisites: Social Work major. Successful completion of SW 300, SW 301, SW 306, and SW 325W.
Co-requisites: SW 412.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: CR/NC grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of social work values and ethics and use supervision appropriately to apply legal and ethical standards, including their role as mandated reporters.
Apply critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, theoretical frameworks, and interactive skills as used in a professional strength-based social work practice, within an urban, community-based context
Develop generalist practice skills in interviewing, documentation, assessment, engagement, planning, intervention and evaluation
Apply the concepts of cultural responsiveness and humility through work with diverse individuals, families, groups, and communities and advocating with clients and communities
Demonstrate communication and writing skills, including organized and timely documentation in agency placements
