PSYC 451 - The Science of Happiness


Units: 4
This course includes readings and discussion on the causes and correlates of happiness, the measurement of happiness, empirically tested ways to increase happiness, and the effects of happiness. Students will engage in happiness-increasing activities and identify areas for future research.

Prerequisites: PSYC 200.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only
Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

1. Demonstrate familiarity with current empirical research in the scientific study of happiness, including the causes, correlates, and effects of happiness.

2. Find, read, understand, interpret, and critique scholarly works.

3. Communicate findings from empirical articles to answer questions about happiness.

4. Engage in various tools that could improve their happiness, as well as understand individual differences in happiness pursuit and the importance of person-activity fit.

5. Generate original research ideas to address gaps in knowledge about happiness.
