BIOL 693 - Capstone Project in Biology Units: 1-2 Culminating experience in which students will integrate knowledge and skills learned in the MS degree and apply them to a real-world biology problem through a project-based approach. Students will collaborate closely with a faculty advisor to develop a tangible proposal, approach and timeline for successful completion of their capstone projects.
Prerequisites: Completion of BIOL 601A and BIOL 601B with C- or better, and consultation with capstone project faculty advisor and department consent. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Plan and execute an advanced project showcasing expertise in their chosen area of emphasis within the biological sciences;
- Critically evaluate scientific literature, identify gaps in knowledge, and apply creative problem-solving and analytical reasoning to address real-world biological challenges;
- Effectively communicate their project outcomes through a well-structured written report and clear, persuasive oral presentation to scientific and/or general audiences.
