ART 492 - Professional Practices


Units: 1
Prepares students for a career after graduation. Students will plan professional development, job searches, create an online portfolio, resume, and materials necessary for successful advancement. Students make a plan to engage with their professional community and developments in their field.

Prerequisites: Senior Status
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Anticipate and plan a course of professional development, including internship and job searches, interviews, grant applications, competition entries, and graduate school applications.
  2. Create an online portfolio of finished work demonstrating mastery of technical, formal, conceptual, and material concerns in their chosen Concentration.
  3. Develop Resumes/ Curriculum Vitaes, cover letters, and materials necessary for successful advancement in their field.
  4. Explain professional and legal issues such as copyright, intellectual property, model releases, etc., that impact their area of work.
  5. Have the plan to engage with a community of professionals and stay current with publications and developments in their field.
