SPAN 344 - Introduction to Spanish Linguistics Units: 4 An introduction to the history and linguistics structure of the Spanish language. Overview of core components such as phonetics/phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and sociolinguistic phenomena in Spain, the Americas and the US.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: SPAN 242 or equivalent Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the origin and development of Spanish language.
- Students will be able to apply the principles of linguistics analysis with emphasis upon examples taken from the Spanish world.
- Students will be able to analyze the sounds, words, and sentences of Spanish.
- Students will be able to describe major varieties in the Spanish-speaking world.
- Students will be able to identify their own challenges as a second language learner or Spanish heritage speaker in the US.
