SPAN 142 - Elementary Spanish II: Language and Arts


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-3A
Introduction to speaking, understanding, reading, and writing Spanish. A communicative approach to the acquisition of the language with emphasis on the appreciation of the arts. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among the self, the creative arts, and Hispanophone culture.

Prerequisites: SPAN 141.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Engage in conversations using level-appropriate grammatical structures.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of level-appropriate spoken Spanish produced by Spanish speakers of diverse origins.
  3. Write simple to moderately complex sentences using level-appropriate grammatical structures and organize them into cohesive paragraphs.
  4. Read and comprehend level-appropriate authentic texts and videos.
  5. Identify and discuss diverse traditions, customs, and values of the Hispanic world.
  6. Compare and contrast the traditions, customs and values of the Hispanic world with characteristics of their own culture
