REC 230 - Introduction to Youth Development


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-4
Examines the principles of positive youth development for youth aged 5-17. Exploration of how the field of youth development evolved and how race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, and social class affect youth development work. The purpose, principles, and importance of youth leadership and peer mentorship.

Breadth Area(s) Satisfied: GE-4 - Lower Division Social and Behavioral Sciences
Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify the principles of current youth development, as well as community and youth engagement practices.
  2. Understand the purpose and importance of youth leadership and peer mentorship.
