ENGL 206 - Foundations in Poetry Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-3A Introduction to poetry writing of various types with emphasis on foundational craft techniques. May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 8 units.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate in their writing of original poems a foundational understanding of a range of styles and approaches in verse writing.
- Analyze what different craft choices mean, how they work, and why by reading a range of texts and writing our own.
- Write poems that starts in the unconscious and are realized through intentional revision.
- Contribute to contemporary workshop models and understand the strengths of each.
- Conduct research relevant to publishing and submit their original work for publication during this semester.
