Introduction to the foundations of fiction writing with emphasis on the short story.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Develop foundational experience and practice of fiction writing;
- Read fiction critically and as models (more like “inspiration” and “motivation”) for their own writing;
- Research historical, social, and political contexts by reading fiction rooted in diverse cultures;
- Enhance understanding of wide variety of storytelling styles and literary genres;
- Develop your own imaginative writing practice and critical reflexivity through learning fiction craft techniques;
- Cultivate a critical vocabulary for the use in workshop;
- Constructively reinforce revising skills, not only of language but also of ideas;
- Practice active engagement: cogent and critical participation in class discussion.
