KIN 372 - Teaching Fitness and Self Defense

This course is designed to develop a fundamental knowledge of skill acquisition and pedagogical methods for the teaching of fitness activities and self defense. Focus is understanding and applying the California Sate Framework for Physical Education. Lecture Units: 2 Activity Units:1

Prerequisites: Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the California State Physical Education Standards as they relate to fitness, self defense, and nutrition as it relates to physical activity.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of movement skills in fitness and self defense.
  3. Be able to combine and apply movement patterns, simple to complex in fitness and self defense activities.
  4. Design an assessment of skill acquisition in fitness and self defense activities.
  5. Design and teach lessons based on good teaching practices for a self defense unit and fitness program that allows students to participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity that is fun, safe and effective.
  6. Demonstrate appropriate instructional progressions (Planning, applying, assessing, reflecting) and identify relevant safety issues of fitness and self defense.
