ENGL 390 - Occam’s Razor Literary Magazine Intensive Units: 4 Collaborative development of CSU East Bay’s literary magazine, Occam’s Razor. Application of organizational and editorial skills as they relate to publication. Integrate practice into experiential learning. Curate literary events; host professionals and prize judges; share literary magazine histories. Repeatable for two semesters.
Repeatability: Repeatable for a maximum of 8 units. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Discover, analyze and describe roles, functions, and methods of literary magazines in international histories with a focus on representation
- Reflect and recognize intellectual and subjective considerations, and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among the self, the creative arts, and literary cultures and subcultures
- Practice creative discourse, imagination, articulation, and analysis of literary magazines’ roles in social justice community building
- Research and appreciate historical, social, and political implications of various mediums and modes in publication
- Develop and apply imaginative theming, critical reflexivity, and scholarship around cultural production by reading submissions rooted in diverse cultures using CLMP (Community of Literary Magazines and Presses), and by copyediting with sensitivities about influences of race and culture.
