TED 517 - Biliteracy and Multilingualism in a PK-12 classrooms Units: 4 Designed for current / future teachers interested in dual-language/bilingual education in PK-12. Overview of theory, methods, assessment for multilingual education, first / second language acquisition. Emphasizes cultural origins of language / literacy in pluralistic society. Course may be taught bilingually.
Prerequisites: Department Consent Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: 1. Explain the history of bilingual education in the United States;
2. Describe the background and models of bilingual/dual-language education;
3. Analyze and integrate current research-based best practices for teaching dual-language learners in grades PK-12;
4. Explain theories, issues, and methodologies related to multilingual language acquisition.
