TED 596 - Integrated Science and Inquiry in PK-3


Units: 3
Explore, engage and enact play-center science experiences that reflect developmentally appropriate practices during indoor, outdoor and family environments. Explore role as facilitator for developing children’s autonomy and integrate science across content areas and domains.

Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PK-3 ECE Specialist Credential
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Engage in and reflect on the importance of integration of science activities across other domains and subject areas that model sense-making and play-based inquiry learning experiences. 

2. Implement components of the CA Preschool Science Foundations & Frameworks, Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as part of course reflections, in-person activities and assignments. 

3. Integrate the use of children’s literature as anchor texts for learning context. 

4. Adapt indoor learning experiences for exploration in out-of-classroom/ outdoor experiences to highlight varied learning needs for children.


5. Demonstrate enactment of CA Preschool Foundations, CCSS, and the NGSS by creating their own integrated learning station that illustrates pedagogical experiences and reflect current PK3 standards and science performance expectations.
