TED 593 - Lang.Arts &Soc.Studies in PK-3 Units: 4 Focus on the development of a comprehensive program in reading, writing, related language instruction, and developmentally appropriate methods of teaching social studies to PK-3 children.
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PK-3 ECE Specialist Credential Program Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Analyze the Language Arts and Social Studies national, state, and local documents, including, but not limited to, California Preschool Foundations & Framework.
- Critically reflect on developmentally and culturally appropriate pedagogy to develop early learning experiences in the Language Arts and Social Studies.
- Understand the role of foundational skills supporting listening and speaking, phonics, spelling, word recognition, decoding/encoding, morphological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, academic language, writing and background knowledge.
- Employ early literacy assessments and recommend best practices to support children’s identified needs.
