Focus on the development of a comprehensive program in reading, writing, related language instruction, and developmentally appropriate methods of teaching social studies to PK-3 children.

Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PK-3 ECE Specialist Credential Program
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Analyze the Language Arts and Social Studies national, state, and local documents, including, but not limited to, California Preschool Foundations & Framework. 
Critically reflect on developmentally and culturally appropriate pedagogy to develop early learning experiences in the Language Arts and Social Studies.
Understand the role of foundational skills supporting listening and speaking, phonics, spelling, word recognition, decoding/encoding, morphological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, academic language, writing and background knowledge.
Employ early literacy assessments and recommend best practices to support children’s identified needs.
