CLAS 105 - Navigating Your First Year in College


Units: 2; Breadth Area: GE-E
This course supports first-year students in the INSPIRE program as they begin their academic journey at CSUEB with an overview of campus resources. Students consider a university education’s personal, social, and cultural purpose.

Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid.
Grading: ABC/NC grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. identify their strengths and assets;
  2. describe CSUEB institutional learning outcomes, with particular emphasis on social justice, sustainability, and diversity;
  3. explain how CSUEB breadth and major requirements relate to CSUEB institutional learning outcomes;
  4. locate key information in the university catalog, including grading policies, major roadmaps, and breadth requirements;
  5. participate in the CSUEB community culture by investigating campus resources and facilities that enhance well-being (academic, social, physical, emotional); and
  6. develop an academic plan and self-enroll in Spring Semester Courses.


E. Lifelong Learning and Self-Development Learning Outcomes
  1. develop intellectual, practical, and/or physical skills and abilities that will serve them throughout their lives;
  2. apply their learning to other pursuits within and outside of the classroom; and
