TED 592 - Literacy Development for PK-3 Units: 3 Developmental levels of literacy in PK-3 based on the application of state documents and best practices including methods of instruction and assessment while supporting literacy development beyond the classroom.
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PK-3 ECE Specialist Credential Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Develop an understanding and application of the theoretical foundations of language and literacy development for children in PK-3, including the use and role of the Preschool Foundations, and CCSS.
- Demonstrate the understanding and development of pre-linguistic skills, phonemic awareness, alphabetics, phonics, concepts of print, and identify best practices for activities and lessons.
- Understand formative and summative assessment practices in PK-3 and use appropriate measures to analyze children’s strengths and needs for literacy development.
- Analyze methods, materials, and needs to create appropriate environments for instruction in PK-3 to foster emergent language and literacy development.
- Understand the role, relationship, and support of literacy development beyond the classroom environment.
