TED 589 - CTE Core Foundations


Units: 3
This course is for teachers adding a CTE credential. The course will prepare candidates with specific tenets of CTE, the State Plan and Model Curriculum Standards as well as the pedagogical differences between college preparation and career preparation courses.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: 1000 hours appropriate industry experience
Possible Instructional Methods: Online-Asynchronous or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Understand the historical, social, political and economic perspectives that impact employability; 
  2. Identify safe and legal practices and comprehend the importance of following professional, legal and ethical responsibilities; 
  3. Understand the importance of community partnerships to improve or enhance instruction;
  4. Study fundamental pedagogical learning theories and theorists of CTE insturction; 
  5. Understand the importance and necessity of equity, equal access and diversity in the classroom;  
  6. Use instructional strategies to apply specially designed academic instruction in English (SDAIE) to modify curriculum for English Learners; 
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of instructional strategies at an advanced preparation level;
  8. Create a year long curriculum for  CTE course for any career pathway in the Arts Media and entertainment industry sector;
  9. Create lesson plans and activities that align with both the Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Anchor and Pathway Standards;
  10. Guide students in creating and maintaining a pathway specific career plan;
  11. Create internship curriculum for students working inside or out of the classroom with professional industry partners;
  12. Use appropriate industry standard technology in presenting standards based lessons;
  13. Design learning experiences that align industry practice, norms, and expectations;
  14. Create and maintain relationships with industry professionals that support work based learning activities.
