SPED 699C - Assessment Support


Units: 2
Provides candidates with guidance and additional content related to the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) examination and the Education Specialist Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA).

Prerequisites: Evidence of not passing the CalTPA or RICA assessments.
Repeatability: Repeatable for credit for a maximum of 4 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Online-Asynchronous or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: CR/NC grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Candidates analyze their performance on the  CalTPA and RICA assessments.

2. Candidates identify their strengths and areas for growth in relation to the CalTPA content.

3. Candidates analyze their performance on the  CalTPA and RICA assessments.

4. Candidates prepare unit plans, lessons and assessments that reflect the use of asset based learning practices.

5. Candidates prepare multi-tiered, UDL lessons and assessments that provide access to the core curriculum and meet individual needs of diverse learners. 

6. Candidates prepare lessons and assessments that reflect differentiated instruction, assessment and grouping strategies.

7. Candidates prepare lessons and assessments at attend to the social emotional learning and the social, emotional and behavioral needs of the students.

8. Candidates reflect on their work and make adjustments  as needed.

9. Candidates identify the major constructs/domains of the RICA examination.

10. Candidates identify salient elements of each domain of the RICA exam: word analysis domain 2, fluency domain        3, comprehension domain 4, vocabulary, academic language and background knowledge domain 5, planning, organizing and managing instruction based on ongoing assessment domain 1.

11. Candidates create responses to prompts requiring 150-300, 75-125, 300-600 word responses
