PSYC 464 - Eliminating Prejudice


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: Social Justice Overlay
This course examines psychological research on prejudice based on race, gender and other identities and their intersections, covering both interpersonal and systemic forms of discrimination, and explores effective methods to reduce bias and promote a just society.

Prerequisites: PSYC 360
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Identify the major concepts, theories, research methods, and findings in prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination research.
  2. Recognize examples of both interpersonal and systemic bias in broader society.
  3. Identify and provide evidence for effective ways for individuals and groups to reduce bias, resolve conflicts, and make progress toward a more socially just society.
  4. Take systematic action to address prejudice and discrimination within their local community.

  1. use a disciplinary perspective to analyze issues of social justice and equity;
  2. describe the challenges to achieving social justice; and
  3. identify ways in which individuals and/or groups can contribute to social justice within local communities, nations, or the world.
