REC 358 - Mindfulness, Meditation, Spirituality, and Creativity in Recreation Therapy

This course introduces mindfulness, meditation, spirituality, and creativity techniques used in Recreation Therapy. Examination of expressive art, guided meditation, and mindfulness that is self-cultivation of spiritual practice that have direct application to ethical decisions in human ecology across lifespan.

 

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Define mind and body medicine settings and techniques in mental health.
  2. Create three meditation techniques in conduct in a group or with individual clients to induce relaxation for stress management.
  3. Identify mindfulness programs and interventions to use in healthcare settings.
  4. Distinguish purpose and techniques of expressive art, poetic medicine, dance therapy, and authentic movement.
  5. Develop a mind and body intervention technique used in the field of recreation therapy for lifelong intervention.
  6. Describe relaxation techniques currently used in the field of recreation therapy.
  7. Demonstrate understanding of cultural meditation and spiritual practices.
  8. Identify ethical considerations in spiritual and meditative practices in different cultures.
