SPAN 448 - Spanish Global and Cultural Studies


Units: 3
Studies in a single author, region, movement, theme or current social issues in Spanish Peninsular literature and culture in a global context. Taught in Spanish and/or English. Readings in Spanish and English.

Prerequisites: MLL 343.
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 6 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of contemporary critical theories related to a single author, country, movement, theme or current social issues in Spanish Peninsular literature and culture in a global context.
  2. Students will be able to link disciplines such as cultural studies, postcolonial theory, and/or feminism, including theories developed by Spanish Peninsular scholars.
  3. Students will demonstrate knowledge about current debates about race, gender, hybridity, migration, border cultures, environment, and/or social movements and resistance in particular historical period of Spain
  4. Students will learn the diversity and connections of cultural production of Spanish Peninsular such as literature, popular culture, films, visual arts, music, etc. in a global context
  5. Students will improve their research skills by seeking, evaluating, and synthesizing journal articles and database resources to support their presentations and written assignments
