ENGL 106 - Academic Vocabulary Development Units: 3 Vocabulary study, including multiple meanings in context, word-formation, related grammatical features, historical changes, and idiomatic and other usage considerations. Emphasis on academic English, but colloquial vocabulary also studied.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Acquire academic words in a variety of academic texts and on the Academic Word List;
- Determine the part of speech of a word, choose from multiple meanings in the dictionary according to context and recognize related word forms, roots, and affixes;
- Utilize learned vocabulary in a variety of academic speaking, listening, writing, and reading activities;
