SLHS 305 - Observation of Communication Disorders-Lab


Units: 1
Fifteen hours of supervised clinical observation of disorders of communication, cognition and swallowing; introduces tenets of clinical writing and documentation.

Prerequisites: Declared major in B.S. Speech Pathology and Audiology, or admitted graduate student.
Repeatability: May be repeated for a total of 1 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: CR/NC grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify major categories of speech/language/cognitive disorders in adults and children with at least 2 examples of each.
  2. Complete 15 out of 25 required observation hours (required by the American Speech Language Hearing Association, as part of its accreditation standards) for all students earning the Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to observe and document in writing, the key characteristics of a communication disorder.
