HOS 360 - Lodging Alternatives


Units: 3
Development and management of alternative forms of lodging available to customers, including timeshares, condotels, hostels, glamping, and adventure travel/lodging.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: All of: HOS 100, HOS 110, HOS 200, HOS 205.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe the history of the timeshare industry and familiarization with timeshare terms.
  2. Recognize current trends in the timeshare industry and other lodging alternatives (e.g. condotels, hostels, glamping, and adventure travel/lodging).
  3. Identify operational differences between traditional lodging management and timeshare management.
  4. Describe the role of exchange companies.
  5. Recognize the difference between points and weeks in the timeshare industry.
  6. Describe marketing tactics employed in the timeshare industry and other lodging alternatives.
  7. Identify sales tactics employed in the timeshare industry and other lodging alternatives.
  8. Recognize the concept of condominium hotels
  9. Recognize the concept of fractionals. Recognize the concept of timeshare as it relates to destination clubs and residential cruises.
  10. Recognize the concepts and techniques involved in developer and consumer financing.
