MUS 495 - Music Education Practicum


Units: 1
Practicum experience in K-12 public school class and rehearsal settings, involving observation and teaching under the supervision of music faculty. Focus on practical skills. Regularly scheduled seminars. Field trips required.

Prerequisites: Department consent.
Credit Restrictions: Only open for credit to music education majors participating in the music single subject matter preparation program.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Observe outstanding music teachers in authentic K-12 school based classroom and rehearsal settings.
  2. Observe a variety of age levels and disciplines.
  3. Experience periodic, supervised teaching experiences.
  4. Participate in regular seminars.
  5. Relate experiences to current, relevant issues, such as cultural and other forms of diversity, significant national and global events, etc
