ENGL 353 - Linguistic History of the English Language Units: 4 A linguistic approach to the origin and development of English, and its relations to cognate languages.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of characteristic features of the historical stages of the English language.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the relationship of the English language to other members of the Indo-European language family.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the technical vocabulary of and the informational resources available for etymological study.
- Students will demonstrate their ability to write critically on topics of importance to English language history.
