COMM 417 - Game Studies Units: 4 Considers games both as media and as sites of communication and culture. Games are studied through hands-on play and texts from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Course may encompass commercial, academic, and independent games.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Introduce students to the emerging field of videogame studies and its foundational academic research and publications;
- Explore videogame’s impact as contemporary cultural texts, each with their own social communities and significance as media;
- Connect and compare videogames to other contemporary digital (and nondigital) media;
- Be introduced to a variety of games-related careers and studies through discussions with professionals working in videogames and interactive media.
