COMM 235 - Famous Politics: Media, Celebrity and Social Life Units: 3 In this 3-unit course we examine the role of celebrity in our social/political lives. We explore electoral politics as well as cultural politics and larger global politics as they relate to the phenomenon of celebrity.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Analyze media representations of a range of political actors and how those actors deploy celebrity in political spheres;
- Explain the media’s role in relation to celebrity, power and politics;
- Explain the influence of media industries’ economic imperatives and working norms on celebrity, culture and politics.
