PHYS 460 - Astrophysics

The study of the physical processes that govern the behavior of astronomical objects, the study of their origin, evolution, and composition, and fate of the Universe as a whole. Topics will include main-sequence stars, collapsed stars, supernovae, galaxies, and cosmology.

Prerequisites: PHYS 330.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

explain the basic underlying processes that govern stars;
describe the features of objects in the solar system;
demonstrate a basic understanding of our present picture of the universe on a large scale;
apply physics principles to the interpretation of astrophysical observations;
explain the evolution of the expanding universe using observational evidence.
