TED 520 - Foundations of Single Subject Education Units: 4 Foundations of education for middle school and high school classrooms; emphasis on application of learning principles for students, including multicultural settings; instruction and planning in the single subject classroom.
Prerequisites: Admission to Single Subject Credential Program. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Describe the major stages of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development in students (CO)
- Describe the major principles of behavioral and cognitive learning theory and their application to classroom learning (CO)
- Identify individual differences in students known to affect their behavior, motivation, and learning.(CO)
- Describe major theories of motivation and how they can be used to explain student behavior and achievement in school,(CO)
- Describe major characteristics of special student populations and components of the special education referral process. (CO)
- Demonstrate the ability to plan instructional interventions for special students and social accommodations for their inclusion.(CO)
- Identify and select appropriate assessments to gather background data on students as determined by TPA task Designing Instruction.(CO)
- Describe and interpret the outcomes of common forms of student measurement and evaluation.(CO)
- Identify the impact of cultural and language differences on motivation and learning.(CO)
- Create an ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) lesson plan.
