OTL 680 - Building the Online Environment


Units: 3
Design and implement an online teaching site, including assignments, interactivity, contact protocols, syllabus, course materials, and research and development resources for student use. Presentation of materials in various formats.

Prerequisites: All of: OTL 601, OTL 602, OTL 603, OTL 604.
Co-requisites: OTL 606.
Possible Instructional Methods: Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

1.  Analyze the audience, instructor roles, content, and the technology of your proposed online course.

2. Outline and design the infrastructure of your course including information about the delivery mechanism, communication features, student support materials and features to be used in the delivery mechanism.

3. Design and develop learning units of your course including an overview, objectives, lectures, assignments, interactivity, assessment, group work, and media.

4. Recognize and evaluate design, usability, readability and accessibility principles of an online environments.

5. Students will identify stakeholders and evaluate attitudes to online learning and construct community support in their learning environment.

6. Students will develop and design the course overview, introduction and syllabus, along with four completed learning units of their proposed course to meet the Quality Matters course design standards.
