TED 687 - Reading & Language Arts: Reading Research & Evaluation Units: 3 Introduction to field of research methodology. Emphasizes how research informs best literacy practices, research processes, relationship between research problem and in-depth literature review, techniques for collecting / analyzing data, writing methodology for analysis / synthesis, and findings in empirical articles.
Prerequisites: Admission to M.S. in Reading and Literacy or Reading and Literacy Added Authorization. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: 1. Explain the relationships among theory, research and practice and the implications for instructional planning and evaluation;
2. Analyze current research in reading and language arts to determine effective strategies for helping all students become strategic, independent, and fluent readers and writers;
3. Identify and utilize key terms and concepts and skill in using research designs and methodologies when conducting literacy-related research project;
4. Evaluate research methods and literacy research to build knowledge and skills; utilize a variety of bibliographic tools to write a review of the literature related to the prospective research study;
5. Communicate to colleagues and other individuals the theoretical foundations and research upon which instructional decisions and practices are based.
