TED 670 - Reading and Language Arts: Biliteracy and the Science of Reading Foundations Units: 3 Designed for teachers integrating Science of Reading in dual-language/bilingual education in PK-12. Overview of theory, methods, assessment for multilingual education, first / second language acquisition. Emphasizes cultural origins of language / literacy in pluralistic society. Course may be taught bilingually.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1) Examine, develop, and refine their practice as educators of dual-language/ emergent bilingual students who demonstrate an understanding of the Science of Reading.
2) Identify key elements in the history of bilingual education in the United States;
2) Explain the background and models of bilingual/dual-language education;
3) Integrate current research-based best practices for teaching dual-language learners in grades PK-12;
4) Explain theories, issues, and methodologies related to multilingual language acquisition.
