TED 631 - Advanced Integrated Math & Science in Early Childhood Education


Units: 3
Curriculum and instruction for math and science from birth through 8-years. Inquiry-based and hands-on instruction; emergent numeracy; concepts of number, correspondence, and pattern; instruction in prediction, exploration, and hypotheses. Field component.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Develop an understanding of mathematics and science content and concepts needed to teach in California Preschool Standards, CCSS, NGSS, NTSA, and NAEYC principles.
  2. Understand and apply components of math and science concept development, including understanding processes of inquiry, exploration, observation, and classification of objects.
  3. Support concept development and academic vocabulary in math and science through the use of nonfiction picture book texts.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of methods of engaging family support and involvement in children’s math and science education.
