PH 450 - Health Communication Units: 3 Overview of health communication theory. Covers advertising, marketing, advocacy and lobbying. Examines funding mechanisms, legal requirements and restrictions on communication campaigns. Discusses the impact of health communication on health behavior. Use of data to measure campaign effectiveness.
Prerequisites: PH 315. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Summarize the fundamental principles of health communication theory
- Explain core marketing and advertising principles of health communication
- Discuss effective advocacy techniques to health communication
- Describe the legal and financial restrictions on communication campaigns, including advertising, social marketing, and advocacy/lobbying
- Discuss the impact of existing health communication campaigns, using appropriate data.
- Identify the ways that different media are used in health communication campaigns, including mass media and electronic technologies.
