PH 100 - First Year Seminar in Public Health Units: 3 Introduction to public health and healthcare systems from an interdisciplinary perspective focusing on critical thinking, effective communication, research and writing, and team building skills. Emphasis is on introducing students to self-directed learning skills that are critical for a health professional.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain health care issues using available informational resources and strategies.
- Recognize critical thinking and decision-making skills based on empirical evidence.
- Effectively use library and other databases to understand issues in health care.
- Work in diverse teams using self-directed learning skills, group and interpersonal skills to complete a project.
- Recognize what constitutes effective oral and in written communication in the discipline.
- Understand ethical, responsible and professional behavior both in the classroom and in local communities.
