Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Develop and articulate an understanding of theories and other analytical approaches in comparative politics developed in the American and Middle Eastern settings
Become familiar with major concepts in comparative politics such as the state and political institutions, authoritarianism and democratization, civil society and governance
Think critically and apply theoretical and other analytical approaches to study the complex challenges and problems in the Middle East
Develop an appreciation for the uniqueness of political systems in the Middle East, and apply that knowledge of diversity and multicultural competencies to promote equity and social justice, at local, national, and global levels
Understand the relationship among ethnic, racial, religious and socio-economic diversity and national political cultures as it unfolds in the Middle East
Understand the concept of sustainability and the debates surrounding sustainability, including their application and manifestation in public policy in the Middle East
Analyze the interplay of political, economic and social/cultural variables that shape the political systems of several Middle East states
Be able to apply theories and analytical approaches, both individually and collaboratively, to studying the institutions, governments, political culture and public policies in the Middle East
Apply theories and analytical approaches, both individually and collaboratively, to compare different governments in the Middle East
Work as a team in analyzing their assigned countries
