PSYC 491D - Research in Developmental Psychology


Units: 4
An advanced research course in which students design and execute an empirical research study related to developmental psychology. Includes data collection, quantitative data analysis, and presentation in an APA style research report.

Prerequisites: PSYC 300W and PSYC 340.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Compare and contrast theories in the area of developmental psychology.
  2. Formulate a research hypothesis in the area of developmental psychology.
  3. Design a methodologically sound study to test a hypothesis.
  4. Use scholarly resources to locate relevant scientific literature.
  5. Critically evaluate journal articles.
  6. Apply principles of research ethics to a study.
  7. Collect and manage data.
  8. Analyze data using appropriate statistical techniques and interpret the results.
  9. Present research findings in American Psychological Association format.
