Readings and discussion in significant historical literature of a specific thematically or geographically-defined area of history, emphasizing the chief areas of historical controversy and interpretation. Refining skills in analysis and use of evidence through study of major historians.

Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 12 units when content varies.

Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Develop advanced knowledge in a region and era of world history.
analyze historical argument, and the evolution of historical literature on the topic in question.
identify the role of historiography in shaping our understanding of a historical era or topic.
produce advanced and original analysis of the topic based on individual research and analysis of secondary literature, and observe the standards of academic integrity.
identify and orally present original analysis on the topic.
