SPED 607 - Advanced Curriculum and Instruction: Mild Moderate Support Needs Units: 4 Curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the academic, social, behavioral and executive functioning needs of students with mild/moderate disabilities. Coordination of diagnostic/prescriptive evaluation, curriculum, instruction, and transition to increase self-efficacy and positive learning outcomes for students.
Prerequisites: Admission to M.S. Special Education program. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify and implement various academic, behavioral, social and emotional programs/curriculum, based upon performance-determined instruction.
- Demonstrate skills relating to individual and group teaching/learning sequences and outcomes.
- Demonstrate use of the variety of instructional/teaching/learning options based upon learning theories and evidence-based practices and the use of instructional technology.
- Identify , analyze and implement already existing programs curriculum and strategies and as they relate instruction of content, individualized educational plans and positive reinforcement of learning outcomes and development of motivational practices.
- Identify and implement techniques such as Explicit Instruction, Cue-Do-Review, I do, We do, You do, and Cognitive Strategy Instruction (Self Regulated Strategy Development), and materials to enhance the utilization of existing programs and instructional sequences.
- Identify and implement strategies to help students develop academic, self management and executive function skills.
- Plan, teach and evaluate lessons that incorporate research based instruction including explicit instruction, self regulated strategy development, differentiation and Understanding by Design.
