ENGL 620 - American Literature to 1900 Units: 4 Study of major works, authors, and literary topics before 1900.
Prerequisites: Post-baccalaureate standing and declared English major. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to analyze and interpret various American literary texts written before 1900 in clear and cogent prose.
- Discuss 2-3 theoretical perspectives about literature and apply these to the literature we read.
- Prepare a research seminar paper that demonstrates facility with conducting research in traditional and nontraditional ways.
- Work collaboratively in class presentations and independently on a seminar research paper appropriate for a scholarly conference presentation (10 pages plus notes and Works Cited).
